Noise after trans service
I just did a transmission service on my 2000 XJ8L. Filter, Pentosin ATF-1, Transgo pressure regulator. I followed the instructions with the Transgo kit, and used the factory manual for filling the trans (fill til it leaks out, start car, run trans P-D, D-R, R-P). I repeated that a few times, then shut it off and got under to top it off. In total it took just about 6-1/2 liters. Trans temp was just over 30° C on the top-off.
Now when I cycle the trans thru the gears (P-D, D-R, R-P) it makes a sort of grunch sound as it goes into D or R. The car is on jackstands and not on the ground.
Is this normal? I'm kind of paranoid... done GM trans service before, and a few manual boxes but never heard this kind of sound...
I should also add that the car drove and shifted fine (and quietly) pre-service. 119,350 miles. This was scheduled/preventive maintenance.
Thanks

Xjack was right, there was apparently some air in there. After cycling a few times it went away. HOWEVER.....
Taking it for a drive around the neighborhood (2-3 miles) it seems to still have air in the valve bodies. Every shift is accompanied by a farting sound, which to me says air bubbles.
How long can I expect this to continue? Part of me says just drive it and it will clear up pretty soon, but part of me is afraid to damage something...
Thanks

mine did it for few drives after change, i just kept driving and it quieted down, me think, either air needs fluid to be hot to find way out of valve body or transgo needs to wear in and is not fully sealing yet
i would keep on driving carefully and observe how it behaves i bet farts will settle after short time. on the other hand, if box is already shot (knock on wood) no amount of care and magic spells will save it from pulling out for repair

Well it did drive and shift beautifully pre-service, so I'm assuming I got to it before the dreaded A-drum failure.
Let's hope for that...
I am currently thinking very seriously about spending the 200 bucks for the dipstick kit from m eurosport. At least then I can monitor fluid levels without the hassle of getting the entire car up on jackstands...
Thanks

not much difference but for sake of perfection and peace of mind you may have a second look at the fluid level, just this time do it on running engine and don't shut off before closing the filler otherwise too much fluid will drop to pan and then overflow leaving box slightly under filled, but it wouldn't be enough to cause noises at shifts
