Odd Water leak
Hi
My 2000 XJ8 has a very odd water leak.
When the engine is running there is no problem, no leaks, no white smoke etc.
Once the engine is stopped (when at normal operating temperature) after about 2 minutes there is a steady drip from the bottom of the radiator followed by a stream of coolant.
I suspect it is from the drain plug but haven't been able to verify this 100%.
Any ideas or advice gratefully received.

Never be complacent about a coolant leak on a Jaguar V8. It's a low volume, high flow rate system and can very easily overheat with disastrous results to the engine.
Leaking coolant often runs along pipes, body etc before dripping to the ground so pinpointing the source can be difficult. Staining and dried powdery deposits at the source is often a good indicator but a pressure test kit is the most reliable method of troubleshooting.

Thanks for the replies people.
The leak is coming from the recovery tank by the front nearside wheel.
It's overfilling and dumping out onto the road, about 1 litre fluid loss after each run which causes the low coolant warning to come on if the car is restarted immediately.
I've just changed the header tank filler cap, now only losing about 1/2 litre, can't see any sign of a head gasket leak.

You do know about the routing of the coolant lines that connect to the header tank, right ?

Thanks for the help people
Simply down to the header tank pipes not being crossed.
Thermostat was changed about six months ago and the pipes were refitted incorrectly then, no problem for a couple of months though.
It appears the filler cap 'o' rings failed and the leak started.
I've now replaced the filler cap, refitted the radiator and recovery tank pipes correctly and no more leaks
