Default OK, another Transmission Fluid Question

I will be changing the transmission fluid in my 2000 VDP and was trying to find Pentosin ATF 1 either locally or on line. Seems like I can find Pentosin ATF 134 (which is red) just about everywhere. Does that ATF 134 fluid work for the ZF transmissions or should I continue to search for Pentosin ATF 1? I have used Pentosing ATF 1 in every XJ I have owned but would try something different if there was a suitable substitute for this. Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks a bunch, Dave

Hi Dave,

here is an extract from my DIY guide for X308 ATF change:

The automatic transmission fluid (ATF), which is required for this ZF 5hp24 5 speed transmission is either: ZF lifeguard fluid 5 or Esso LT71141.
Having said that: There was a merger between Exxon and Mobil in 1998. Esso is a trademark of Exxon Mobil meanwhile, thus Mobil LT71141 is really the same. I ordered 20L of Esso LT71141 and received Mobil LT71141 instead.
It was not cheap, but a wee cheaper than Lifeguard 6 (for S-Type 6hp26), and quite a bit cheaper than Lifeguard 5 (also good for X308 5hp24).

That's the complete guide:

I never heard "Pentosin" before...

NO red ATF is approved for the ZF5HP24. ATF 134 is likely for the Mercedes W5A580 (722.6) gearbox?
There are a few fluids that meet specs. ATF1 is one of those.
This subject has been discussed (beaten to death?) so search in the X100 or X308 forums as well as BMW or VW.

Pretty sure Don B did extensive research and posted many times on compatible fluids.

That is what I have been using lately and I try to keep 4 or 5 containers in stock.(as well as filters & pan gaskets)

I know there has been a lot of discussion regarding this fluid but I wanted to survey the group concerning the Pentosin 134 fluid which seems to be everywhere. Thanks much for the speedy replies! I'll search out some Pentosin ATF 1 or similar fluids and hope to do the job next weekend. Best, D
