Default Ok, now onto the next problem, rear shock bushing.

Ok I figured where the rear rattle is coming from, it the rear passenger side shock.

I have read, the bushing/cushion goes bad and they need replacing. Looks like the whole assembly have to come out to replace them.

The question, is bushing/cushion is that the only part that needs replacing. The shocks are good, so no need to replace something that doesn't need to be.

And where can I get these parts from, besides the dealer.

Thanks
SGB

Why the allurgy to the dealer? they're an important item and only $50 each. you're correct, to replace it's shock out.

Sorry about your luck. It is too bad that there is so much work involved for rear shock replacement. I did mine last year. Had a thump in the rear. Replaced shocks. The shocks were still good so I figure the problem was an upper bushing. The bushings turned out to be good also they just needed tightened. It's just a shame that there is no way(that I know of) to get to the upper shock rod nut without removing the whole assembly. At least I have new shocks and I know the nuts will not work loose again(locktite). I'm glad I did it myself but hope I never need to again. Good Luck.

I'm facing this myself and hope to find time soon to tackle it. I am wondering if it's possible to extend the shock below the swingarm enough to press out the lower bushing. I'll let you know if I can do it.

Not that I am against dealers, just the always cost more lol. But since this is a dealer only item, I guess I have to find the cheapest dealer then.

Hi
I found the rear shock absorbers bushing part number (CCC6782) in the JPEC parts catalog.

I am not sure where Sean got the $50 each pricing.

I found at partsxks.com for $13.05 - I am not sure why the price is so low - They are in California - try calling them and ask if they are oem parts (also ask for photo of part) and if they are in stock.
http://partsxks.com/i-7089005-ja-ccc...-series-i.html

SNG Barratt-USA has them for $59.70 each:
SNG Barratt - USA | Parts | Spherical Joint

and Gaudin Jaguar has them for discounted price of $74.62 each:
Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com

This weblink will bring to the parts search webpage. Put in the part number and select Jaguar in search by OEM part number fields.

You should also contact another Jaguar Forum vendor - Nalley Jaguar now replaced by Jaguar of Greenville - call Jason at 864-288-7575

Hope this helps.

I'm allergic to the idea of removing the entire rear suspension to replace a shock bushing!
It may be blasphemy, but that's poor design. Shocks wear out a number of times over the life of the car, and it should be designed with that in mind.

Unless of course the particular suspension design mandates it. For example, old GM live axle suspensions had easily accessible shocks, but they didn't handle the same.

However, an access plate for the top of the fuel tank would have been a nice touch. Entirely possible, but a cost to the manufacturer.

I appreciate what you are saying, but an access panel inthe boot would have worked, or the upper mount could have been designed to allow for removal from underneath.
I have replaced hundreds of GM shocks, and a typical time for all four shocks would be 10 minutes on the hoist.
That's why this design annoys me...

Well, there are threads around where people have managed to sneak the shock out without complete disassembly. One of them has pictures.

Hi
I found this rear shock lower bushing forum thread started by forum member McLovinXJ8L:

Here is his solution:

So after about 7 months of rear suspension noise, my mechanic friend suggested I spray white lithium grease onto the rubber bushings. After driving the car 200 plus miles yesterday, the problem is solved.

Here is the weblink to the forum thread:

I would try this possible remedy first before the going thru with the removal the rear shocks.

Interesting. My noise is a distinct knocking. My son bounced the car while I was underneath and the lower bushing has a lot of play in it.
I wish grease would fix it but I doubt it.
Thanks I appreciate your help.

The white lithium grease did the trick and only cost about $5 bucks at Autozone. It's worth a $5 try. Spray, drive around the block and spray again. 1 can is more then sufficient.

Can you replicate the sound when you press down on the trunk?

I also think it is a poor design, no access plate or have the setup similar to the front. But, with the design of the car, I can see the space limitations, with the gas tank directly over the mount. Accessing would mean removing the gas tank.

This job don't look difficult, with the use of a spring compessor.

Will be taking on the job soon. If I can take it out without a spring compressor, I will share my how too.

Thanks,
SGB
