Without going what it should be, wrap a thin layer of rubber tape around those tangs, and you are probably good to go forever.
I have a roll of that rubber (like a roll of electrician tape, just much thicker material), and it comes in handy on these cars.
If memory server well (but it is all pretty murky for some reason ), I did the same to eliminate some noises up there.

KC, I removed my overhead console today, not because it was falling down, but for another reason that isn't important here, but anyway, I'm pretty sure this is the first time my console has been removed, and the front metal tangs are plain spring metal, no rubber sleeves etc. Basically the only thing that holds that console up is the two plastic "U" brackets on the console, that slip into the two fixed metal spring roof tangs, and then that one black plastic "turnkey" that is located above the sunglasses pouch.
The tangs are quite large, so I don't see how the front can drop down unless 1) your front pair of plastic "U" brackets are broken, or 2) The rear plastic "turnkey" is faulty, or not fastening all the way home when you secure it. I noticed mine makes a definite "click" when it is turned into place.
Just throwing some thoughts around...............

They were misaligned yet still perfectly uniform/symmetrical. It's odd to see that, usually one side would be askew to the eye. That was annoying as anything to be driving then BLAM your damn overhead console drops in to say hello lol.

"Does anyone know if I can take the microphone off & if so will it leave holes in the material ?"
Yes it will leave a hole if you remove the mic.
I sourced my overhead console from the U.S.A. and decided to leave the original mic on and then add mine.
I like things to be balanced
Hope you are well
