Default Interior Dome Lighting Questions

I am looking to put LEDs into the interior dome lighting and ran into 2 problems.

1: how do you remove the platsic cover covering the lights? i tried to pry it out with a screw driver and it would not budge out.

2: what are the sizes of the bulb(s)? Sylvania says its 6411 but it looks like there is a total of 3 bulbs in there and what is the MM of the bulb (autolumination asks me for size such as 31mm, 36mm, 39mm, 41mm, etc.)

<chuckles> You're assuming anyone actually KNOWS the answer. There are a couple that have the shop manuals, and that may help. I don't have it myself, and have not had occasion to pull them out.

But dude -- you only posted the question this morning. They make a few thousand of these a year. Most of those are sold to not-quite-youngish folks that rarely frequent the internet, let alone a Jag forum. There's just not that many of us here, man.

Regardless though, it's great to see another XKR show up, and one that is an active member too. Welcome!

Very easy to do. Use a plastic panel opener and pry the entire console, where plastic meets suede. Work your way around the console before pulling down. They are secured by several clips.

Led bulb sizes are 194 for map and 44mm festoon for dome. 42mm works fine as well.

JK_XKR, I want to do the same. Did you buy them yet? If so can you tell me which exact brand led bulbs you are going with? Thanks

168/194 Miniature Wedge Base Radially Mounted CAN Bus Bulbs Specifications

This is what I bought for the 194s. Ordered 42mm festoons from eBay (error free).

Btw. 194s will fit license plate, puddle, glove, floor and map lights.

36mm festoon for door and trunk.

i already know its 194s for the license plate bulb and the footwell ones. the problem i ran into was i ordered 2 11mm dia. x 32mm overall bulbs for the license plate and they were to long and hit the plastic so i popped them into the footwell lighting instead. what mm did you go with for the license plate lighting?

I went with the 5led bulb so ~26mm. Used the 9led/30mm bulb for the puddle which barely fit.
