tiny light bulbs
Looking for replacement for tiny bulbs that mark buttons on overhead console. Not looking for the 5w map light bulbs, but the little pea-size bulbs mounted on a round white base that you pop in and quarter-turn to properly fit. In this case, I need a bulb that lights the "map" button switch.
Jag parts says not available. Radio Shack, AutoZone, Bulbs&Batteries, independent parts stores say they have nothing like it.
Is the best alternative to buy an old console from a salvage yard?

I have purchased those bulbs from this outfit:
Automotive Household Truck Trailer RV Lighting Led Light Bulbs
Be careful that you match your bulbs base correctly.
Also, be sure to get incandescent. The led bulbs are way to bright.

If what you need is Part 11 in the diagram at the link below:
Map Lamp and Roof Console - Parts For XJ Series from (V)812317 to (V)F59525 (X308) | Jaguar Classic Parts UK
And it looks a little like the bulbs in photo 6 of the album at this link, except with a flatter plastic base:

You can probably just replace the "grain-o-wheat" bulb and reuse the plastic base.
When I replaced the bulbs in the instrument cluster of our '93, the best substitute I could find was a type 2162 bulb, which was the same T1-3/4 size as the original bulbs in the plastic bases, and rated at 14V 100mA.
These bulbs were slightly dimmer than the original bulbs, but perfectly serviceable.
I agree that you would probably not like the brightness of an LED in that overhead map lamp button. If you want to try an alternative, slightly dimmer bulb, the type 2182 is rated at 14V 80mA.
I purchased a few dozen 2162 bulbs from Bulb Town: Buy Lightbulbs, Cheap Light Bulbs & Commercial Light Bulbs | Buy Bulbs Online for U.S. $0.70 each. I bought the clear bulbs with long wire leads:
BulbTown is the one-stop shop for your lighting needs! We have a great selection of low-priced colored lights, miniature bulbs, hard-to-find lights & more!
If the bulb in your map lamp button is of a different physical size, you can probably find what you need at the bulbtown site.
To replace the bulbs, you have to carefully pry the metal electrical contacts out of the plastic base. The contacts pinch the wire leads of the bulb, so once the contacts are removed you can carefully withdraw the old bulb. Feed the wires of the new bulb into the base, then carefully press the contacts back into the base. The plastic bases become hard and brittle with age, so treat them gently.
I hope this info is helpful.
Cheers,
Don

A belated thank yu to all of you. I found the bulbs at autolumination.com. It is a "neo-wedge" incandescent and the bulb needed on x308 overhead consoles is a "B" size "grain of wheat bulb that lights the buttons that say "map" and "1" "2" "3" "4" on the garage garage door opener. Took me a few tries figure out which size works, but trust me the B is the one even if it looks too big on the autolumination web site.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

yes , it needs work, shall we say. If you go to the section on "instrument panel lights, and scroll down half way, you will find incandescent tiny wedge lights that fit our cars.
here's a link to the page, so scroll down here half way:

and here is a copy and past job. We want a Type B, T4 bulb for panel switch lights only:
