Default Overheating, dumb tstat question.

Chasing an overheating condition. Replaced the stat, no help. Got new water pump to put in.
So, just in case, while I've got it drained again, which way does the stat face? Springy end toward engine? Or else?

Thanks.

Default Does this help?

If you have an X308 Jaguar then you are in the right forum and the attached picture should help.

The thermostat has a bypass 'shut-off' on the 'springy-side'.
It needs to shut off coolant flow when the thermostat opens.

You can see the hole in the back of the t-mostat housing.
