Default P0702 code

This weekend my wife parked our 98 xj8. She said it was acting funny and when she park it and she couldn't get the keys out. I took the Console apart and removed the J gate. Saw that the park switch lever was missing. So I depress the switch with my finger and was able to remove keys. I drove it home with no problems. Got home with it and replaced the switches yesterday.

Now it is acting funny. The park switch will give warning beeps like it should but will not activate the solenoid to release the shifter. But if I depress the neutral switch it will release the shifter.

Now it is showing a P0706 code. Is this the TCM failing. If it is can I take the one out of my 98 xj8l donor car without programming.

Thanks

Sorry about the error in the code. It's a P0706 code. Getting old I walk 5 ' any can't even remember a number. Check battery voltage at 12.57. It is the same at the false bulkhead. Did a hard reset and code reappeared.

Thanks

Checked the code and found out it is the rotary switch, J gate. I had a spare put it on and all appears to be good. I'll put the console back together and see how it goes. Sorry if I wasted anybody's time.
