Unhappy p1722 code

I need help! Took our 98 xj8l took car wash thursday morning. Thursday evening drove a few miles then all of a sudden the car goes into limp mode. Checked codes got P1722 and P1111. Air filter was nasty. Replaced air filter, cleared codes. Car still in limp mode with code P1722. Any ideas? Closest dealer is 50-60 miles away. Thanks

According to my manual P1722 is a speed sensor fault

DTC P1722 Stall speed
Output speed sensor signal
faultyHarness
faultConnector pins(s)
bent, loose or corroded
TCM failureTransmission mechanical fault

The diagnostics indicate either a transmission problem or a connector problem.

If you got P1111, that's just a CAN network message taht means the system diagnostics complete. If you got P0111, that's the air filter message.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a dealership and they suggest replacing the transmission $6500.00!! Don't think so! It seems that our 70.00 code reader read the same code as they could. We hope to try the sensors this weekend. I really like the car, we have only had it for 2-3 mnths. So far we have replaced the water distribution pipe, front wheel bearing, and water pump. Luckily we have been able to do these repairs. I just hope its not a never ending problem. Plan on checking the secondary tensioners after we fix the transmission issue.

waller:
I would have a look at the electrical connectors connecting to the transmission. Make sure they are tight, no skinned wires, and remove and inspect for corrosion, certainly before I considered anything like a new transmission.

Sorry, it took so long to give the results. We finally took the car to AAmoco. They rebuilt the transmission. The a drum was broke and the gears had started shearing. So far so good. I have to take the car back in another week for them to recheck. It took them four days to complete the job. I did not think that was bad at all. They were the cheapest price we could find around.

Just curious, what did it cost to rebuild?

A little over 2500.00. That is with a one year 12,000 mile warranty. I could have purchased more warranty, for three year or limited lifetime. The lifetime was total around 4000.00. Not so sure what I am going to do as far as keeping the car. You know how some cars have a personality, this one has an attitude.
