Default P1797 Neutral Switch Circuit Malfunction?

Having had my 2001 XJR for a couple of months now, It has on two occasions refused to crank and start. The engine does not crank. After trying a few times and wiggling the shifter, the engine cranks and starts and throws the CEL with a code of P1797.

I have searched the forums and based on what I have read, I will again clean the ECM to TCM connector with electrical contact spray and see how it goes.

My question is, that the info on the forum also points to the neutral switch. Is the 'Neutral Switch' the micro switch located a the PARK position in the shifter module or is it located on the side of the transmission?

Thanks.

Any chance at all you have a slightly tired battery?

If not then I suspect a chafed wire or indeed a bad connector. I've not heard of this being due to any switch but see if someone knows for sure.

I have the same code im gonna try to replace the safety neutral switch and see if that works maybe it's cause it gets hot and the wires are just burnt up a lil bit over the years im not sure but well see

Thats the safety neutral switch. You will see it on the passenger side of the tranny
