My 02 XJR has a few spots where the paint is fading. In this picture it's right behind the back window. Can a paint shop touch it up and still have it blend in with the rest of the car's paint?
I think a good paint shop would want to repaint and coat the panel and trunk lid, and also feather into the tops of the rear fenders to do it right. And it wouldn't be cheap. I'm guessing $650-$1,000
Cheaper shops could make it look better than it is now for less, but you get what you pay for.
Paint work is almost all labour, although the paint they use today is very expensive too ! I recently had the hood repainted on my previous car, a 2007 X358, due to stones damage. It cost around £400. If the base coat is undamaged albeit faded, then it is just a case of removing the clearcoat, applying base coat, then replacing the topcoat. There may be a slight variance in the shade of the new and old. It all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. If you want it perfect, then you'd be looking at refinishing the trunk lid and the tops of each rear wing.
I tried the paint by panel to fix clear coat failure came w/ my X308. Shop charged $300-350 per panel but after a year or 2 it really drew my eye as far as not having uniform shine. I opted for the complete paint job in March of this year.
