Default In A Pickle - Locked Out 99 XJ8 - FIXED

1999 XJ8
OK Guys. Told my wife not to lock the door till we had the door lock repaired. Of course, I lock the #$*& door. No FOB
Key will lock when turned to the left, but not unlock when turned to the right.
Read in a post here that holding the key in will lower the window and that actually happened when I was playing with the lock a few days ago, but I can not duplicate now that I need to.
1) Anyone know how the key lowers the windows?
2) The key seems to work so what part do I need to replace.
3) Once I replace that part, will I need to have it flashed by the dealer?
4) Any other ideas?
5) How do I admit to my lovely wife I did what I told her exactly not to do?
Cheers
Ken

Hi
motorcarman posted this possible way to open the locked door in another thread:

The US spec X308s have the 'hour glass' shaped door lock knobs and can be opened with a fiber box strap folded in half and fed into the door gap behind the rear of the window.

Just get a wedge of wood or plastic and pry the door glass area to feed the plastic strap into the gap.

Use the 2 halves to guide the fold onto the knob, pull back HARD AND UP.

The door is now unlocked.

I have had to do this at the dealer dozens of times over the years.

Hope this helps

Default It worked!

Thanks Jim,
Had to happen to have a package of wood shims and some thin stiff wire(no strap material). Looped the wire to fit the knob and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for you help as always.
Wife never knew till I left this thread up on the computer(lol).
