Default The project moves on somewhat!

so i purchased the car because ive always loved this particular one most. I knew there was a small amount of work to do on the bodywork to get it up to good condition.

I found some corrosion by the near side front wheel arch / sill / floor pan and decided to make sure things were ok everywhere. The corrosion has been well covered by body filler, mastic and underseal which made me worried enough to check everywhere. So I've stripped off the front wings, taken out the interior and carpet so i can see everything. There were four spots of bad corrosion both front wheel arches / sills / floorpan and both sides about 10 inches back from there middle of door opening on the floor too. Next job is to drop the front subframe to check all round there. Its turned into a much bigger job than i thought, but I'm learning lots about the car and about my abilities too! Here are a few photos from the journey so far.... (Im an absolute novice on X308's so any wise words or advise is much appreciated)

I believe the gentleman went by "nick wood" here on the board. He did all sorts of rust repair on his XJ and IMHO did some really nice work.
You might want to look up his posts.
We see a lot of that iron oxide thing here in upstate NY due to the salt that gets used on our roads from October to May, that's why I picked up my Jag from Texas, it's like a whole other country!
That's also why I won't let her out of the driveway once the first snow comes, it would be a mean thing to do to the old girl.
Good luck with the rust repair and all the other repairs that will be affected by rusty parts...
