Putting in new (used) transmission
So I am putting in a new (used) transmission and have a few questions. Maybe some experts here can help me out as I am a newbie at this. I am looking at the JTIS for removal and install and I see that it mentioned to mark the flex disc flange that connects the transmission output shaft to the driveshaft if the transmission will be reinstalled. However, this is a different transmission that will be going in. If this is the case, how will I properly align the flange from the transmission output shaft to the drive shaft flex disc with the new transmission? Or does it not matter? Secondly, because the new transmission had not been taken apart (except the torque converter had been separated from the transmission), would I have to measure the end-play specification accordingly? (Read that this should be measured). Or does it not require this since the transmission was never opened up and taken apart?
Any extra precautions I should take, please guide me with this. Thanks much to all in advance.

Flex disc alignment is not material for you as you are putting in a new transmission.
Assuming the replacement transmission is a rebuild or has come from a running car, there should be no need to worry about end play
Not sure if you have access to a hoist & transmission jack for the job? Attt. is the w/u I did for others on the forum when I did mine in case you haven't seen it. As mine is a N/A LWB VDP with a ZF, there may be some differences to your XJR, but it should be similar.

Good Luck!
