radio locked up after a battery jump start, urgent help please
US cars do not need a code. Doing an improper jump start can damage a lot more than the radio. Try a hard reset and see if that solves the problem:
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and touch it to the positive terminal for about 30 sec. This drains the capacitors in the various modules and allows the ECU to address the systems from scratch.

We have had a few reports (I can recall only 3 instances) of US vehicles actually being fitted with coded radios. In the unlikely event you do have a coded radio, it will display:
CODE _ _ _ _
when powered ON.
Is this what is happening?

Most of the time, the radio code is in the owners manual packet somewhere. Check there or you will have to check with a dealer tomorrow.

There should be a card (like a credit card) with the 4 digit Security Code. Here's an example from my 2001 XK8:

This is a regular issue for UK owners where the card has gone missing. A call to the local Jaguar Dealer (with proof of ownership and the VIN) almost always gets the code free of charge.
