Default Radio wont accept code - Dead?

I went to do a few things on my XJ this afternoon and when I turned on the radio it was on the enter code screen. No big deal I have the code, but when i entered it it wouldnt take it. It beeped and i tried again, etc.

I even tried the pay for a code site just in case the PO replaced the radio, and its the same code. Is this thing basically dead now and I need to get another?

If you need a new radio, i have one. make me an offer. But first make sure that you do need a new radio

If it was working before you disconnected the battery, it's extremely unlikely it's failed.

Note the warning in the Audio Handbook about entering an incorrect code.

After three attempts, the radio must be left powered ON for an hour before you can try again.

Update:

I got the radio to power on with the code 1111 but now only the CD & cassette work. No radio, screen is just blank. When I check the region it is set to Europe and will not allow me to change it.

At least I have some music now.

I was gonna say, I am prety sure the XJ8 stock radio does not use a code if in the US mode. And the channel spacing is not right if you are in the Europe mode. So, whatever happened to put your radio in the Europe mode may be a failure of some sort. I assume you have tried the methods defined in the archives to try and change the mode?

Yep I've tried those methods, I have a new/used one coming this week. Doesn't bug me too much as the cassette door was broken/missing so I had to address that anyway.
