Default Rear lighting issue.

Been getting the check rear lights message, I checked all bulbs, connections & cleaned contacts. I notice that my driver's side running light does not illuminate unless I have the fog lights on. Brake lights & everything else is fine.

Is this the reported security module issue I've seen here.

Thanks

It is if it comes on when you tap the brakes. Quite a few threads. If you go on eBay to find a used Security Locking and Control Module, try to match numbers with the one you have. There is also a company (Idaho, I remember faintly) that will rebuild and guarantee yours for about $200 round trip.

What doesn't work, in the long run, is the bridging technique in one of Robert DIY's YouTube.

These security module rebuild services I see online, is it possible to drive the car while the module is out to be serviced or will it cause a plague of errors & lights.

I'm willing to send mine in but I'd miss my weekend drives if it took an extended time to return lol.

I found a used one on eBay; the series has to match, particularly the freq for your fobs to work. My plan was to send the old one off for repair, but the new one worked.

There is a wire that runs to the upper light that is not controlled through the SLCM; you could bridge both rears off that line while the part is being repaired. No fobs, tho.

Do a search, Ross told me and RobertDIY how to do it.

sometimes just having some bulbs with a steel base and others with a brass base causes enough difference in resistance to give a bulb fail message. Change all the bulbs at the same time with the same brand. Look for a loose socket too.

It's not just the message as one is actually out, unless I have the running/fog lights on.
