Default rear main seal problems

Much needed help . I have a 2002 jag xj vdp . Had bad oil leak back of engine . Put it up on lift , found the rear main seal is blown out . Replaced the rear main and cleaned the small orifice for the ventilation for crankase . Checked all venting hoses , all seam clear . Drove the car very short amount of time . Normal city driving . REAR SEAL BLEW OUT AGAIN ! Not sure why there is to much crankcase pressure . ANY IDEAS OUT THERE ? Thanks in advance .

Above the rear main seal is likely your oil leak.

It’s called a cooling system cap seal. You’ll need a 17mm Allen head socket to remove it. I install new cap seals with silicone on it. It’s a non moving part but is just as prone to leaking as much as the rear main oil seal itself. I know, it makes no sense.

Are you certain that its the rear main seal? My x308 developed a profuse oil leak at the rear of the motor and I found that the plug at the back end of the main oil galley was loose and I could unscrew it with my fingers. It's located just above the rear main seal and a leak there could easily be mis-diagnosed. I had read about this issue before on this forum and so I knew to suspect it. As many posts as there were about it, its not just a fluke, but apparently has affected more than a few of these engines. I installed a new sealing washer on that plug, torqued to about 20-25lbs IIRC, and its been fine for several years since.

Yes , certain its the rear main seal . It gets pushed all the way out to the flywheel .

OEM would certainly be my choice.

I have put dozens of these in and never had an issue. I like it the best because it has a collar that goes on the end of the crankshaft and after you spray some WD40 on the collar, you slide the seal towards the crank. We have a tool that finishes installing the seal properly but, you can carefully press the seal in with a wide flathead screwdriver and a small hammer. Maybe check your part load breather for blockage to make sure there’s no excess crankcase pressure from lack of ventilation and pushing your rear main seal out.

Corteco 4352327 is the PN and fits a lot of the JLR vehicles below.
