Default Rear view mirror solutions

Hi all.

Right now I'm on the hunt for s replacement mirror, bit it's occurring to me that anything I find with still be 20+ years old so maybe we need a more long-term solution.

Right now I'm considering cannibalizing my old mirror for the components needed for the automatic headlights and beyond that just going with either a basic mirror OR a smarter mirror/dashcam situation.

Thoughts?

Thanks motorcarman. I've seen this on the forum, but it actually wouldn't help me. My mirror itself is fine. My issue is that the fingers that grip the spherical mount have given out. It's the old plastic plus the UV rays.

I found a junkyard mirror for $15, and I could get it made serviceable by sending it off, but how would I feel if I paid that $150, just to have the plastic break and I end up in the same situation?

That's why I'm looking into other solutions. If I separate the headlight wiring from the mirror I can get creative with the rest.

There's a Honda 4dr saloon with an identical looking mirror, I can't remember the model though. I've got one but the plug is different to my XJR, so I need to strip it down & see if I can swap the bits over. It looks physically the same in how it attaches so might give you more options though.

ETA, I've just checked. My mirror was from a '08 Legend.

Ran across the other cars ( Japan ) on this forum so you would have to search under X300 mirror in the search box

There was also traffic on rewiring the connector pigtail wires , the X308 is different as has a sensor in it ( headlights auto on or maybe climate control sunlight extra A / C effort ? )
