Hi, I need to replace the auto-dimming interior rearview mirror in my '99 XJ8. Did the factory use this same mirror in any S type or X type models, or was this mirror specific to the XJ8? If I buy a replacement mirror with the compass display, will the compass work? (I don't have a compass now.) Not sure whether the sensor for the compass is in the mirror itself or located elsewhere in the car. Thanks all!

 

I can't answer many of your questions, but I do know that for mirrors with a compass, the compass is part of the mirror assembly and not off somewhere else. On all or virtually all cars, the mirrors are all sourced to outside companies. So the pool of possible replacement designs might be more than you think.
