Recirculating inside air button always on

Recirculating inside air button always on
OK. I have searched thru all the posts, and can not find an answer to this.
Each time this POS is turned on, (2006 XK8), the recirculating inside air button is on, (red). Far as I can tell, this is the opposite of what should happen, (should be off). Without going into why this is a pain in the ***, can anyone tell me how to keep this from happening?
It's my wife's car, and I'm tired with dealing with the hassle!!!
