Remote control
I installed new batteries in my remote for my 99 XJ8 and now it will not work.
I installed the batteries correctly and the tester at the parts store shows that it is transmitting.
When I install new batteries in the remote for my Corvette the car has to recognize the remote. Is this the same with the Jag? I went through the owners manual an nothing is said except for what it can do and how to use it. Anyone know how to make these two communicate?

Yep same as the vette' - search on here keyfob programming, it's something like key in ignition to position one holding the headlamp flash on, then flash 5 times to enter learn mode, an led will flash on the gearbox bezel, press the remotes you want to pair.
$125 at the dealer or 10-seconds of your time... lol...
Leave the drivers door open and put the key in (don't turn though)
Pull back the high beam then turn the key to the first (or maybe second?) position (don't start the car)
Release the high beam and quickly flash the high beams 4 or 5 more times until the car makes a beep
Now press any button on EACH remote that you have (the car should beep for each one).
Take out the key and everything should be back to working.
Yes, the Jag dealer really quoted me $125 beforeI learned how, total crooks...

HI C5,I was about to give you the same instruction.trust our members. It works as I follow the same instruction found here.
just try a few more times and you will feel so happy that you are able to program your own car remote.

I followed the instructions and was able to make the car chirp but when programing the remote it beeped twice one button but still would not lock or unlock the car. It seems to make that sound (2 beeps) as soon as I take the keys out. I take it that it means that it is finsihed learning.
Any ideas?

I don't know what the batteries are, but it sounds like they're nominally 3V. If so, the second one is probably dead (even if it's new). Might want to try another one.

That should teach me to never, EVER trust new batteries. I bought amother set and now it works just fine now. I wish I had the receipt but I'll just chalk it up to expereance.
Thanks everyone for their input. If it wasn't for this I would have never known how to program the keyfob.
Now if I could only find a good deal on getting a spare key.
