When you get the new steering wheel installed, test drive it before you put the airbag back on. That way you can reset the steering wheel if you find that it’s off a spline or two. Set the old steering wheel as straight as possible before you take it off, so you can get the new one on straight. Chances are, you won’t hit it perfectly, thus my advice about test driving it before you put the airbag back on. You’ll get an airbag warning light, but it will go away after you hook it back up.

 

Also give your clock spring a shot of WD-40 or similar while you have it open, they tend to get noisy w/ age.
