Hello all, ..........for a change I am posting a success, rather than asking for information. I recently had a fuel pump failure on my '98VDP. I first tried to use an inline pump, and broke into the supply line under the drivers' seat area, but was unable to pull enough through quantity through the bad pump in the tank. So, after that failed I decided to cut out the parcel shelf as described in a post on the forum. First removed the backseat and parcel shelf, disconnected the battery. Then ,with a air driven nibbler ( from Harbor freight) nibbles an opening approximately 71/2 inches right above the fuel tank access ( see photo) .Used a magnet and a vacuum to catch as much debris as possible.. Once exposed I cut all three hoses away as I was afraid to damage the blue plastic evaporator housing. releasing the unit by gently taping the retaining ring, lift evaporator out. Un plug the pump from under the evaporator. I had previously left fuel un the tank to reduce a fire incident. So used the a 5/16 " spin-tite to remove the one screw holding the pump on a bracket down in the gas. Removed the rubber hose from the output on top of the pump. The pump is now free. In my case the pump had been replaced in 2011 per the date on the pump. It was not an OEM pump, and ended up buying a pump from Pegasus Racing (FAC-FEP2471) It was a Moto craft pump about $10.
Reversing the procedure I was able to get the "CAT " fired up and sounding great once again.
Thank you to all of you who have helped me out in the past with "fuel washing", and other issues. I have attached a photo to help explain the process.
I did have to purchase a stepped hose also from Pegasus (SR19 16 Black stepped hose 3/4 to 5/8) and a short length of 7/16 hose from Amazon (
