Default Restricted performance in new purchase

So I had the new car (2002 Xj8 vdp) out on the highway on Sunday and the restricted performance light came on...then went off...the came back on...the went off. I didn’t notice any issues with the actual performance as I was able to exceed 3000 rpm. The next morning, the light came restricted performance indicator came back on in city driving on my way to work along with the CEL. The r.p. Light went off but check engine stayed on. I took it to pep boys at lunch and had the codes read.
p0333 knock sensor 2 bank 2
p1111 system pass
I drove it quite a bit yesterday afternoon, highway and city and the R.P. Light never came back on. The CEL is still on.

I’ve seen lots of threads about this issue on here and assume I have a faulty knock sensor but wanted input about troubleshooting without purchasing a new sensor.
thanks!

Metzgerm,

Rockauto lists that WVE 5S5622 as equivalent to the Duralast SU 7015 so it will work on a 20O2 XJ8 VDP

You probably have a typo in your posting when you say you have a 2002 XJs?

For best responses fill out your profile info with details of your vehicle etc.

BTW, that is the best price I have seen for a knock sensor in a long time, most are in excess of $100

Indeed, it was a typo. I’ll order the part now. Thanks for the advice.

Metzgerm,

A pair of long reach pliers are really handy when changing knock sensors..........if you don't have any Harbor Freight has them for just a few dollars.

Those needle nose will help big time. Very easy to change a knock sensor on an NA AJ, compared to the SC cars.

Aarcuda what's your comments about me not changing the 02 sensors and using the originals think is causing the flashing the Restricted performance or is it the knock sensor gone bad? when Car first started for 10 seconds the RP light didn't ome on at the weld shop n then i started flashing every 4 seconds on and off for about 2 minutes. also the p0420 code never came back only p0328 and that was their when i bought the car i figured a knock sensor should be easy to fix .well not on the v6 x200 2005 lol. Any inputs as the RP is flashing even after the Cat Swap. Maybe because i used the OEM Oxygen Sensors.

The other cat might possibly be hollowed out too. their was no welding or cutting on the passenger cat convertor. it was weird was no honey comb. if they left is like that maybe thats why its causing the restricted performance? so swap the 2 right o2 sensors of passenger. and weld universal to left side that install ne o2 sensors?

did the hollowed cat look like it had been cut opened and rewelded back shut? if so there's only one reason to do that and thats to take the guts out But you gotta check the other cat so you know what you got. as I said before you gotta watch the STFTs, the Upstream sensor currents and te downstream sensor voltage. Might as well look at the knock sensor output to see if its rattling at idle. I bet yoy can ohm out the knock sensor terminals and compare left to right. you got to figure out if the sensor is actually back, or if theres a short or its really pinging

Another method I learned here is to take a socket and pack it with silicone or any sticky grease. This will get the nut off without dropping it beneath the intake. From there you can use a bent coat hanger and a long screwdriver to fish the old sensor out and locate the new one. The pliers would work great too I'm sure.
