Unhappy she may be going to her grave

hi all,
drastic news- involved in car accident last night! car had to be recovered as engine management closed her down.
a driver decided that i would look better on the other side of the road and pulled out of traffic and pushed me through the central reservation at approx 45mph!
everyone one involved was ok and she has admitted liability so the future of my beloved is now in the hands of an auto-engineer- lets hope he has a good day before he assesses the damage. i have an agreed value policy so there wont be too many surprise but you never know with these people....
hopefully repairs will be made and i will get my wonderful car back, if not-back to the drawing board and start looking for a replacement.
i am nursing a very sore rack of ribs at the moment and some problems with an already compromised back so i may be able to top up my reserves through compensation route but, once again-who knows

the whole event has left me feeling very sore and has left a bitter taste in my mouth but, i suppose, it could have been a lot worse!

dom

Good to hear nobody was hurt - you can always replace the car. Chin up and maybe have a tentative look on pistonheads classified, structural damage is very expensive to fix.

Unhappy

thanks for your thoughts and words. youre all right it is a
real bummer!!!
many hours and hundreds if not thousands probably going to
waste.
ive been to the hospital and no broken ribs - just heavy
bruising! i have that to be thankful for i guess. i have not
heard from the insurers yet but the repair centre have
intimated at a "total loss".....:-(
i guess that means they will offer me an absurdly ridiculous
figure to settle. well i have news for them! the policy i
have has an "agreed value" aspect which, as far as i am
concerned, means that i should get that figure? there is
probably some small print somewhere, as usual!
i had to send photos of the car before the premium was
decided so i have a record of the original, insured
condition. i am going to the repair shop tomorrow to collect
my tax disc and am taking various spanners and screwdrivers
to remove some of the upgrades i made. i do not intend to
spend another year hunting down the parts for my next car.....
i have been looking around and have my eye on a couple at
the moment but until the powers that be make their
decisions/offer that car is my property and i intend to
remove as much as i can!!
good luck fellas and i will be back soon with updates as and
when..
dom.
ps- no airbag deployment!?!?

Don't know how it works in GB but you might want to wait until an adjuster inspects the car to begin removing things.

Unhappy a sad day

a sad day has come......

insurance company have contacted me today and, unfortunately, the axe has fallen! the estimated figure to repair the damage is £6900!
not economically viable
anyway they have offered me the full "agreed valuation" figure that was set up when the car was insured this time last year. i would have owned it for 1 year next week!
the best news is that i have been asigned a day, tomorrow in fact, to remove any upgrades i made to the vehicle since the valuation was done provided i refit all the original components and i do not cause any extra damage. at least i am not gonna see all my stuff up for sale on ebay next week!!
so its back to the drawing board and start the hunt for a replacement. i have one to look at next week in kent so fingers crossed.......
thanks for your words
dom.

Have you thought about the route of buying it back from the insurers after they have paid you.

Your agreed valuation, minus the scrap value -- you receive a cheque + the car.

At the end of the day it is going for scrap, so if you are able to do some work you could easily make quite a bit out of parting it out yourself, and or have a good spares car, or even repairable CAT D type vehicle.

Just some thoughts, esp' if the one you are looking at is the same.

Whatever happens, remember the Forum is here, and the guys are all friends. LOL

In response to your photos: Ouch! She hit you hard! The fact that the tyre has come off the rim and the state of the door shows this! I hope you find a decent replacement! S.

That's sad news for your pride and joy, but at least nobody came to serious harm.

Good luck with your search for a new ride.

hi fellas,
spent all day today removing my upgrades today. managed to
get just about everything i did off the car except the new
window switches i fitted. unfortunately the two passenger
doors were unopenable so removing the door cards for access
to the switches was impossible. made even harder by the fact
that my ribs absolutely cane every time i move........ esier
to leave them fitted. unfortunately the power fold mirrors
were busted or at least one was. i was able to adjust the
glass angle but the fold/unfold action was not apparent?
quite a sad day really thinking of all the time and money
spent going off like that---- due to the carelesness of
another driver.
on a happy note, i have arranged to look at 2 cars this
weekend both of which are newer than what i had and have
some of the upgrades already done. so i shall be starting a
career as a salesman on Fleabay in the near future!! you
never know- i may be able to get a few quid back.

so all in all, apart from the bloody sore ribs, i suppose
alls well that ends well.

laters guys - i will let you know how the weekends shopping
spree goes......

dom

the repair estimate was 6900 gbp (£)!!!

Honestly the damage does not look that bad considering the speed of the impact. What kind of vehicle hit you? They never crash tested these Jags, and I've always been curious as to how well they would fair in a severe accident. From what I can tell, quite well.

Smile new ride found

hi all,

just back from my second viewing of the day and i have found a replacement for my dearly departed.......

she is a 2002 XJ8 sport. sorry Gary- shes only a 3.2, i still havent elevated to the lofty heights of the 4 litre!
shes only had one owner and has a proven mileage of 46500! has upgraded wood veneer(sovereign i think), 18" 5 spoke alloys (5 of) and has had 2 new pirelli asimmetrico tyres fitted to the front - 400 miles ago! the power fold mirrors that i just fitted to my old car are already fitted to this one so thats one upgrade i dont have to do.... the only thing i need to sort is either a jaguar startac phone system or a modern bluetooth system like i had in my old car. i am not too sure which way to go at the moment but hey, i'll have plenty of time to decide.
i am however sorry to say that i believe she is Aquamarine. i think i will say now that the colour choice was in homage to Lord Beyer before he accuses me of copying him!!! ;-)> my wife says green cars are unlucky- not as unlucky as blue ones i say!! the leather i believe may be parchment but i have not checked that so i am not 100% sure.

so all in all i have had a good day and will obviously post some photos as soon as i collect her which will hopefully be next saturday. the garage are changing the front brake pads and disks as i noticed a slight shudder on heavy braking. i hope that the new equipment will solve the problem but if not i guess i will either wait until they rectify the problem or keep hunting until i find something else. hopefully there will be no other problems although the sale is made with 3 months warantee so i think i can be fairly assured of a problem free ride!

photos to follow and updates as and when....

dom.

Totally agree with you on the colours. I think westminster blue with ivory leather takes some beating!
There seems to be a lot of "black on black" available but black on ivory? Not so much.
The black on black is too hearse-like for me. I like the deep burgandy colour but I think I need to be nearer 50 than 40 for one of those!
I will check the paint/trim codes for an accurate identification....
