Default Shock Absorbers

Does anyone have insight on using sport shocks on a 01 XJ8 with original standard springs? Rockauto only has sport ones (bilstein) and they are a few hundred bucks cheaper than anywhere else that has the standards for sale. Is possible to use or is it advised not too?

I'm running the Green Bilstein Sport shock on my 2003 XJ8 base. Had them on my 2011 years ago, as well. Handles well; rougher ride.

For some reason, Rock Auto has all their Bilsteins listed as B4, whether Sport or Comfort, but my understanding is that B4 is the Comfort or Standard model, and B6 is the Sport model. You might do a little more research to see if Rock Auto actually has the Comfort or Standard shocks but has described them incorrectly.

Cheers,

Don

From an old large all car makes Bilstein cataloge

The red hashes are for the earlier X300 , X305 , and X306

Notice the XJ8 " sport " suspension is listed as a B4 ? But they are listed by Bilstein as different Bilstein part #s

I don't think sport refers to the 3.2 liter model as the supercharged R model is not listed separately

Parker,

That's good info. It is very possible that the Bilstein catalog is wrong, and that is why Rock Auto's listings are wrong. This is often the case, that when I find an error on Rock Auto, I can trace it back to the manufacturer's literature. And it seems that once an error appears in a manufacturer's catalog for an older model vehicle, it rarely is corrected.

Cheers,

Don

It's them...not us. Part houses often fall back to what the manufacturer posts
as they should know their product. Unfortunately sometimes that is not so.

Comparing both the Bilstein catalog and Rock Auto's, it looks like the B4s at $102 are standard suspension and the $110 are sport. Might be worth a phone call to Rock Auto.

Years ago (2013) I bought from Turner -- no longer see them when doing a search -- the clerk suggested the green sport. Now, looking at the Bilstein catalog, green seems to be the regular, non-sport, non-electronic. Worth a call . . .

It might be worth entering your vehicle details in the online catalog to see what comes up:

Bilstein U.S. Shock Absorber Catalog

Cheers,
