Side Emblem XJ8
Hello,
I recently saw a post for the side fender badge for sale with a picture of the item. These is a wire plugged into the badge as if it would light up. I removed one from my 2000 VDP and there was indeed a wire plugged into it. When I removed the plug, there was no electrical connection in the badge...there is nothing for the electricity to power. My question is, is there a badge that did light up on some models?
Thanks, Dave Warner

Jaguar s Type Crystal Clear Side Light Repeaters | eBay
The wire is a courtesy, left in case you want to run repeaters aka side markers, aka fender lights.
If you do it, I would solder a 12volt led inside the housing, because they are brighter and last way longer than bulbs. You can get a little creative? VARIOUS COLOR LENSES AND LED'S.Just use a digital volt meter to find your positive and negative. for the LED, OR just use a bulb
OEM is amber? I like clear, yellow is ugly.

When I bought my XJR, I wondered the same thing.
I just installed a pair of white lights with chromed amber bulbs.
These lights are actually trunk lights with the mounting tabs removed.

Unlike the other respondent, I am not a huge fan of adding LED lighting UNLESS you are planning on doing the whole car.
IMHO mixing LEDs and standard bulbs does not look very good.
Also, some LEDs can make the car look like some teenager's Honda Civic...
The chromed amber bulbs are invisible when off.
I did not like the look of amber bulbs in the white housing. It was not a good look.
The right hand light is plug and play.
For the left side, I ran wires through the inner fender where there is already a rubber hose going through the inner fender, and tapped into the front left turn signal wiring using Posi-Lock Wire Taps.
If you decide to go with the trunk lights, you will have to cut off the two little tabs (when you look at one, you will see what I mean), and you will also need the metal clips to hold the lights in place.
I bought a pair of X300 amber lights for really cheap on eBay just for the clips.
HTH.

It was one or the other, not both. You got the badges that do NOT light up, or you get the side repeaters as shown above, but amber in color.
Chris
I would leave it alone, the less features on these cars the better lol.
