Default smoke following TB clean

Hi guys

I recently cleaned the MAF, part load breather tube, and throttle body as per instructions I got on here. The car was running fine before hand. As son as I had finished I started her up and there was the smell of burning chemical and some white smoke from the passenger side right at the back. I put it down to excess TB cleaner burning off (even though I used the stuff that you spray on a rag not spray directly into the TB, so I cant imagine how there could be any excess).

That was 2 weeks ago, car running fine as always, but I occassionally smell "chemical" in the car. Just got to work now and white smoke coming from that passenger side right at the back again. Smells of oil or some kind of chemical, only slight but enough to see and smell.

Can anyone think what this could be ? Something I did wrong ? It is a '99 XJR and I drive 1-2 miles to work.

Any ideas appreciated!

Mind you, the MAF cleaning did involve spraying quite a lot of chemical into the MAF....maybe it is that chemical working its way through the system ? Anyone else have that experience ?

Thanks

Does it smell like antifreeze?

Maybe the problem is unrelated but you just started noticing it when you did the MAF work.

Wink

doesnt smell like anti freeze. Definate burning smell, and white smoke. Never did it before I did the maintenance, but did it immediately I restarted the car. Didnt do it again that I was aware of. Today smoke coming from under the hood.

Sorry I was wrong, its DRIVERS side, not passenger side (Im from UK, still thinking like a right side of the road man!)

anything with burning and smoke bothers me. trying to avoid flames

Thanks for your input. I had not thought about anti-freeze. Better not mess about with it in case its a head gasket. Im going to get it looked at this afternoon.

Thanks again
