Default So Long Cruel World!!!

Well, I have been crying in my beer all day long. Somebody pulled right out in front of my wife this morning and the front of the XJ8 VDP is toast. Only had it for 2 months. Took me months to find this beauty. 80k, all original tags on all the body parts and everything. Put in shock mount bushings, bump stops, and ceramic Akebono's last weekend. Drove like a dream to San Diego and got 25mpg. Best car to date period...

Sorry to hear it. More importantly, though, is your wife ok?

Assuming Mrs feloniousmonk is fine, you get to hunt for a better one now.
So it's not all bad, but a shock to the system anyway.

All is well with the Mrs. Thank you for your concerns. Good thing these are built like a tank. You should have seen the VW. Looks like it was taken out at the knees. I will keep all informed if I part this out after round 2 with the insurance company. Man, I already miss that car!!!

Default Totaled

If anybody is interested in a great driving parts car, see my post in the SW section. I am in Phoenix and hate to see such a nice VDP wasted. Gotta want the whole thing.

As I said on the phone, I'd be all over this if the interior is same color code as mine. So what did you decide to do with it? You can go the route I suggested on the phone, or you can MAKE MONEY by parting it out yourself. This car is worth three to four times more in parts, than the way it sits.

You said it's driveable, so I will assume it needs the hood, fender, headlight and trim, bumper, and not much more. My guy quoted me 500 to match the paint, 200 for taking old stuff off, and bolting new stuff on (had to ask him out of curiosity!) There is a hood on Craigs for 200, and a fender for 150. I'm sure the headlight will be less than a 100. Bumper is 200 (if you need it).
Total is less than 1500. If we have room in our garages (five car garage, and no room!), I'd come to PHX to get it.
Don't junk the Cat with 80K on the clock, she didn't reach half of its lifetime.

Thinking: Insurance is probably giving you about 5K for it (low book). you give them 1500 back, spend 1500 on fixing it, and pocket 2K! Sounds like a good math to me. You already know the car (no surprises), and who cares if it has a salvage title (keep it until it dies an honorable death!), you will not sell it.

Default Glad Wife is OK

The X308 is a safe car to drive. My wife hit a Honda with our XJR rolling slowly in stop and go traffic. The insurance company totaled the Honda. The XJR has a little crease on the front bumper that is only noticable if you look closely.

Default She's gone on to a better place

Well, I let her go. I received a tidy sum from the insurance company. A very tidy sum!! I will try to find another, which I don't think is around, maybe get a newer one or something else. Too bad there aren't more nice XJs around. If I had room, I would definitely have parted it out. It just wasn't an option. Good luck to all!!
