Default Spark Plug Interval

Question regarding: X308, XJ8, Sovereign, 4.0L, 2001, AUTOMATIC, Transmission: ZF 5HP24, Engine: AJ27

looking for some help. My x308 has 50K miles. I read from Jag that the recommended service interval for changing spark plugs should be 100k. However the car is also 22 years old, any recommendations on whether to change them out now or wait until 100k?

couldn't hurt to throw in a new set, but I'd be surprised if they were original at this point anyway

What about new ignition coils?
Im curious if they are original - I’ll post some pictures when I complete it. Then again I changed my serpentine belt a few days ago and it was the original from 01.

would you know the specific gap settings?

Irrespective of what the official advice recommended, I wouldn’t be comfortable with any set of spark plugs being in an engine longer than 30,000 miles. The gap is usually preset on the plug from the factory, it’s around 1mm from memory but I do recall Jaguar changed the gap to improve idling but this was only by 0.1mm.

Ignition coils tend to be quite hardy, they don’t require changing unless they fail or are damaged. They can be changed in singular units, however there are two different types depending on model year.

From memory the gap is 1.1mm or 1.3mm, I think it's one for NA & one for supercharged but I can't think which way round.

Personally if the plugs aren't rusty outside the head & are gapped ok I'd keep running them. I've got a bike with a 15k plug interval, I change them at 50k when they've got rusty outside & start to earth poorly rather than any other reason.

At 21 years, I just changed mine even if only 66000 miles. After pulling the old ones, I noticed they looked fairly new. PO must have done a change out at about ten years. New NGKs work fine, but not much difference.
