Default Sporadic Widnshield Wipers

I have a 1998 Jaguar XJ8L and the wipers come on and when I try to turn off, they keep running then stop randomly on the windshield. Not back to the home location. Anyone have a similar problem and any suggestions?

Steve,

I've copied the question from your Intro thread to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Not a guaranteed solution, but sometimes the wiper relays can be the problem. There are two of them, located under the hood just behind the driver/left headlights. (I think this is true thru the whole 1998-2003 range)

They are the same part number, and one controls On/Off, the other Fast/Slow. One may be faulty, or just have corrosion on the contacts. You could try removing them both for inspection.

I'm pretty sure the part number is LNA6706AA, and they are available online

Default sporadic windshield wipers

It was not the relays. Anyone know what else can be the problem?

I suspect that it could be the Body Processor Module playing up. It is located behing the glove box. I had a vey similar issue, with wipers and other stuff misbehaving. The problemm was cured by running an additional earth from one of the the BPM securing bolts down to the gearbox.

Did you replace with new ? This was common failure back in the day .. both of mine had them replaced.

Does anything occur when you wiggle the control ?
