Default squeak while driving

Noticed a squeak only while driving. This does not seem to happen when at stop lights. It seems like its it from the passenger side of the car, but cant really tell as hearing is not as it once was. Wondering if it could be wheel bearings and if so what is the proper procedure for the fix. Also does the Jags have grease points? not sure of that either. Thanks for all the help guys and I must get a pic of of my green Jag

If it was in my car, by description first I would check if it is coming from.... my wife :-D

If it is a wheel bearing - it has to be replaced, these cars have closed "single unit" bearings(front) that can't be adjusted/tightened/greased. The job require special socket to take ABS nut, but socket from sears worked for me.

Replacing bearing is not an easy job, I would suggest to double-check if it is bearing. There are ways to check it by assessing the wheel play, but I would ask a tech to do it.

I would think if it were a wheel bearing it would have more of a grinding sound. Does the sound go away when you apply the brakes? A high pitch squeak might be bushings. Look at the top of the front shocks and see if the top bushings are going bad. Push down on the front fender a few times and see if you can replacate the noise.

It could also be the sway bar bushings, or anti-roll bar bushings as they are also called. My Range Rover squeaks like crazy and it's those bushings. They are not real expensive or hard to replace (on the Jag anyway).

jacked the car up and the tire will move from top to bottom and a bit from side to side. Yep I 90% sure the bearing is bad on the passenger side. The roads here in Kansas are the worst I have ever seen and it probably just wore it out. What special socket / tool is needed? is there a proper procedure to replacing the bearing?

There is a lot of info in the archives on wheel bearings. Here is one recent thread -

Here is what I did to replace bearing(if memory serves right): refused $720 offer from suspension shop; bought bearing from amazon(timken, $35 or so); bought the socket from sears($24 or so); took wheel off; took brakes off; took knuckle off; gave knuckle, bearing, socket, and $50 bill to local friendly mechanic; got knuckle back next day with new bearing in it; painted the knuckle with rustoleum; put everything back together; had wheel alignment done at sears($90 or so, as add-on to new tires installation).

So far I got it off and it is in the hands of a guy to press out the old and in the new bearing. I did call a shop here in Topeka (Midas) and they wanted 150.00 to press out and in. They wanted that just because it is a Jag. Went with a different person for the press work. Thankful for the help here and will post the findings later when I have her back together again.

Crazy how some garages will take advantage of you because it's a Jag. I usually don't tell them what kind of car it is until they quote me a price on a repair.

Yes I am learning that. I do know the bearing is the same as a ford probe. However I do 99% of my own work and I guess I will have to look around for my own press to do that work also.

got the bearing replaced after a fashion. now 4 to 6 weeks later the squeak is back. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Also does anyone know the flag time for replacing the bearing? I do plan to get with the parts house and they can pay me for the replacement bearing and labor.

Is it a tiny squeak at tire rotation speed?

If so, check the stainless caps on the lugnuts. A loose one can squeak while
in motion.

Does your brake pads have those little tabs that squeal when pads are worn?
Sometimes they are bent too far in when new and will make noise even though pads are not worn to unsafe thickness.
