Default Stability control failure / engine fail safe mode – No ABS light

Randomly my 1999 Jaguar XJ8 goes to “Stability control failure / engine fail safe mode.” I checked the battery (7 months old) also checked wheel sensors and cleaned them. There is no engine light or ABS or Traction Control light. I got the ABS light on a 2 times with traction, but the car did not go to “safe mode”. My mechanic scanned the car when it was under “safe mode” but there is no code.

I sent ABS module to ASI for repair. After I received a module from ASI the same problem occur next day. I shipped the module back to them and after 2 weeks they told me that there is some problem and they can’t fix it. I bought another module (used one). After I installed this module, I was riding one week without a problem but now I’m getting the same problem. I checked a lot of posts here but most people got an ABS light on when they go into Stability control failure.

My mechanic checked again the resistance on sensors and level of brake fluid.

Has anybody experienced similar problems?

The car runs fine when it is not in safe mode. I know that some members pointed to throttle body, brake pedal position sensor, and brake light switch, but with these symptoms I should get some code. I drove the car when my mechanic hooked up his scanner and he was checking “live data” and everything was OK.

At this point I'm pretty lost. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

David

Do a search on throttle body issues.

The ABS module has probably failed. A VERY common problem.
If you get the C codes read you will likely determine that C1095 is your DTC.

MANY posts on this fault (the horse is dead so stop beating it!!)

Do an interweb search for Jaguar C1095 ABS module fault.

I fixed the problem by replacing the throttle body. ASI rebuild the throttle body 4 times in last 8 months. I'm not satisfied with them at all. That time I said it is enough and I bought a used throttle body that was never rebuild. I installed a new throttle and the Jag runs like new. In your case you may have a bad ABS module and also throttle body.
