Subwoofer upgrades - powered?

Subwoofer upgrades - powered?
Anyone have a powered sub in their car? I see several that are slim and fit under the seat and a few that are designed for trunks. I was wondering if anyone has done this. I have the regular system and wanted a lil extra bass. I'm not wanting to rattle the glass, just want a lil extra punch to the stock system. Just bought some Polk 6.5" to replace the door speakers so just trying to tie it all together. Advice?

Coastal,
I went through a couple powered subwoofers (Infinity BassLink II and JBL Bass Pro) before switching to a traditional amp and subwoofer set-up. My XJR came with the parcel shelf mounted 6x9. The problem I found with the powered subwoofers is that, by mounting them in the trunk, I could hardly get any bass into the cabin without removing the 6x9 in the rear which created a port hole for the bass to flow through. I have a friend who also has a BassLink. He made modifications and was able to fit his BassLink inside the cabin and it sounds wonderful; however, if you go that route, you'll obviously lose a bit of cabin space.

Coastal,
My friend modified the open space that the rear armrest raises into seat back and installed it there. It actually doesn't take up a lot of space, but it keeps him from being able to raise his rear armrest when needed. The wires he spliced into for the sub are in the rear driver's side footwell. That would make the install easier for you opposed to running the wires from the head unit. It's been a while, but I think every opposing wire had a stripe on it. In example, yellow wires: positive = solid yellow; negative = yellow with red stripe...get what I mean? Do you have you car's wiring diagram?

I have a powered 12' sub custom built into the rear quarter panel. as previously stated by Brian 2891 I just removed the original 6x9 and this space now gives the bass to the cabin.
Works fine for me.
In all honesty I did complete install with new componants in doors, amp, proper sized wires, stalk control interface, New headset in custom leather facia. Only way to get the decent level of sound I required.
