Hello...

I was wondering if anyone had any info on how i could use the telephone feature in my 99 XJR.
Is it possible to link my cell phone to the headunit via bluetooth?? I have seen video of how to link your cell to the car's headunit and controls in a couple of 02 or 03 Mercedes E classes.
I figure in the age of hands free cellular being a law in most, if not all states while driving, why not use this wonderful feature that otherwise sits there useless.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Lots of discussions on the subject. Here is one of the best that is found in the XK8/R FAQ sticky: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...4&postcount=13

if you have the jaguar phone you could also get it activated with pageplus cellular, that way the buttons and all the functionality would work...keeps it original instead of that retro parrot thing...

Would the dealer supply a part like that? Then I would need a specific number for the "car phone". Not sure if thats what I'm looking for. I dunno. However, I would always prefer keep it original...

The original cell phone installed in the Jaguars was analog technology. I am not aware of any US cell phone system that will still accept analog phones. The only solution being discussed is bluetooth connectivity to either the Motorola or Parrot systems. I bought the Motorola T605 simply based on price. Caught it on eBay for less than $20 new in the box with $9 shipping. Haven't installed it yet but full instructions are certainly available.

pageplus cellular will setup the original phone for you...it is a CDMA phone which is digital and works fine on sprint and verizon, although they won't activate it for you due to it not having E911 capability, that is why you need to use a third party like pageplus cellular that leases service from verizon and charges .04/minute...trust it is so much sweeter when the phone works seamlessly with the car...you need to find the motorola startac that came with the jaguars, there is special firmware on the phone so that it works with the cars transceiver...it is so so so much better than retrofitting something else...

What is meant by "activate it"?
Simply getting service by Verizon for the phone would not do?
If so, why? what would be missing?

I assume this means I have a different number for my "car phone" v's my cell phone,. Thats kind of going backwards.

Having done both the bluetooth mods (I had a Parrot, then I switched out for a T605 when I got a phone that also did bluetooth music streaming) I can confirm that call quality, etc is amazing, and no one believes I am in the car. The ONLY caveat about the set up which is fair to point out is that my call pick up button doesn't work on the steering wheel.

Personally I'd rather have 1 phone number and 1 phone bill
