Default Thinking of buying an XJR

Hello All, I am thinking of buying a Jaguar XJR. I've never owned an XJ before but have had newer Jags (S-Type and XF), having retired I've decided I want a modern classic rather than a new car. With the XJR or the Super V8's are there any particular issues I should look for?
The car I'm considering has an extensive history file and seems to have be exceptionally well looked after.
Also in terms of modern classics, I would be interested in your varied views as to whether I should look at the XJR (circa 2003 -2007) or consider the Daimler or Jaguar Super V8's. I'm not really that familiar with the important differences between these cars.
Thanks MikeM144

Mike: Assuming you are from Manchester, England, are you looking at a X308 or X350 series XJ8? Both great cars. The stickies at the front of this forum for the cars from 97 - 02 UK MYs will describe issues in the X308. A companion forum has details on the later version -- MY 03 through 99 in the UK. US MYs were one off: US/NA 98 - 03 for 308s.

Each had its issues; most getting taken care of as the models evolved year by year. A glove box full of receipts is worth its weight in gold. Both forums are an equal treasure trove of information.

The best year for an X308 is 2003, the last year. The tensioners are metal rather than plastic so you don’t have to worry about changing them if the previous owner hasn’t. They’re wonderful cars and my ‘02 has been the most reliable Jaguar I’ve ever owned.

Thanks Guys for your swift responses. I finding my way around this forum so hopefully will soon get to know the differences and key issues.
I am in the UK, so it will be a late X308 or possibly a X350.
The 2003 X308 I'm looking at has such a great history file, it outweighs my usual tendency to buy the latest model I can.
There does seem to be quite a few XJRs around, but not so many Super V8s. Which leads me to think a super V8 might be the better buy long term.
Cheers, MikeM144
