Default Tires Wearing on Inside Edge

With 25,600 miles on the P4000 tires the front inside edges are down to the belts. Dealer says that it is time for the Campain to be performed at myexpense. New Lower Control arm bushings. Does a better bushing exist, or should I use the Generation 2 factory bushings??

Hey genius,

What are the differences between the old and new bushings? Is it a material change to make them less compliant, or is the bolt hole offset to permit more positive camber adjustment? And is there a bulletin on the "Campaign" that I can get a look at? If it's a camber issue, I would think you'd only have to change a set of low milege bushings after attempting to adjust camber, and running out of adjustment.

All I had been able to find out is that the part number was superceded. I wonder what kind of difficulties this adds to replacing a trailing lower arm/ ball joint assy: if the bush in the new arm is uprated, then would you also have to remove the leading lower arm to replace that bushing too? That makes an expensive job even worse.

Thanks for any info you might be able to provide.

Default Dealer wanted $550 to replace " Lower Front Bushings"

From what I have read on the subject, they are stiffer than the older version.

If you look under the TSB section of this forum, you will find the number. I would be interested in reading that one myself.

the front bushings are the only ones that fail.. which were part of the campaign.. and the rear ones almost never failed.. so what jag did was just take the new ones for the rear and put them in the front.. the old front bushings are just a steel outer sleeve rubber (or on earlier cars were plastic and rubber and so were the rear bushings) piece in the middle.. which was weak.. and they wud split and there wud be too much play in the lower front arm when driving .. causing the car to feel loose.. and for the camber to be negative.. and wear the tires.. on the inner edge.. the rear oneshad an extra steel sleeve in the middle of the bushing making it superior to the front ones.... so after replacing the fronts and doing an alignment the car wud be perfect..
the bushings are about $20 each and about 3-4 hours labour including alignment.. and about 2-3 hours with alignment for xks..

also if you get a replacment arm for the ball joint being faulty it has the updated bushings..
jag tech ohio-- you can replace each and every arm separate from each other (except on xj's due to the removing of the spring and pan).. depending on which bushing is split.. but recommended to do in pairs..
pretty easy job to do .. just looks like a lot of work .. not really.
hope this helps
