Oh, it could be the battery...definitely get it checked. But this is a common fix, had to do it on mine, its simple and eliminates a weak point even if it isn't the issue you have. It drills pretty easy, so yeah, go lightly. I didn't take a chance, I started with the pilot bit just out enough to get a groove going. Then I took the pilot out and lightly continued.
A quick note, instead of using the tape as they do, get a plastic plug the same size as the hole saw you use. You can get them from Lowes special parts bin, it a cleaner unnoticeable look.
