Default Transmission filter and oil change

2001 xj8 seems like all service has been done to car; no probs shifting etc (115k).

so whats the deal with the tranny fluid? ive been told it is NOT replaceable its lifetime for the zx trans. i think its BS and want to get a new filter and synthetic fluid in there asap

give me your comments please!

Any Mercon V synthetic will fit the bill. The filter is readily available.
Check the level with the fill plug off and engine running, tricky but doable.

I would be sure to use a fluid that conforms to the spec, Mobil synthetic ATF is reasonably priced and specifically conforms to the ESSO spec, which makes sense since Mobil and Esso are the same company. You can find the Mobil fluid almost anywhere.
