Exclamation Transmission Replacement - Jag Mech.

So I got a transmission that I think will last me another 50k miles.

As usual I have a number of questions before I try the swap on my own or decide to pay for the install. I got a quote at $450. Which seems good. All together that totals the purchase and labor at $1k. I think I may just go ahead with that because I am not too upset about paying that price for such a fix.

Anyhow, how much of a pain is this removal and installation? Once everything is bolted up do I have to have the transmission computer reprogramed?

Can't I just bolt it up, fill it with the trany fluid and drive away?

Would someone who has done this please respond. Remove my ignorance and let me know the important information on this project. Special tools? Etc.

Namor:
I have not done a transmission rr on an xj8, but from my experience with other cars, $450. is well worth the price, unless you have plenty of time and tools, or just want to do it yourself. I assume your quote is from somebody who will do it right and to bugger the input seals by not aligning the new box or some other rookie mistake. The box will reprogram itself.

I wish I had a mechanic that would do that type of job for $450.00. I would pay to have it done at that price.

i'll get under the car on thursday. but, from everything that i have heard and though before i heard anything; i like the price. may as well have it installed.

got the quote from 2 places with 90 day warranty that would pay back anything that would be a fault form their install.

and the jaguar techs here offered $680.

not bad i think. not at all.

Go back and ask him if that includes the $370.00 in fluid you should need. Also, ask him if he is going to replace the front seal. $450.00 is giving the work away, that would make me go somewhere else.
