Default Transmission slipping?

Recently my 1998 XJR transmision is having a weird issue. Between 2nd and 3rd gear it revs about 1000 rpms then shifts into third. When giving it full throttle it will slip at 5K rpms rev to 6K and then shift to third.
When going easy on it, it will shift at 2-3K rev to 4k and then shift to third.

The transmission was rebuilt at 100k and it currently has 127K.

Any ideas?

I'd get it checked out -- my guess is the tranny is going.

I'm definitely not a transmission person, but if the auto shiftiing doesn't work properly, it could be the idle control module, for example, and the slipping could be causing problems with the transmission -- if it's not broken now, it might end up that way if you continue to drive it with the slippage.

Hopefully a transmission expert will pipe in here and give good, solid advice. In the mean time, it would be smart to get it checked out by a repair shop or the dealership. JMHO

generally these gearboxes are very robust - I'm sure R owners would appreciate an update when you get it diagnosed. Have you checked for leaks underneath? There's an issue with the trans electronics connector ring seal sometimes leaking. Get the level checked is the first thing I'd be looking into....

Time for a valve body overhaul ?

Look at the description by the valves text in this Sonax pdf

Spring nr.12 is reported to by broken regularly.

Also worn valve seats (leaking) can cause irregular shifts ,
but not suddenly i suppose.
