I have an opportunity to get one of the 3.9's out of a low mileage wrecked LS locally.

Has anyone used one of these motors as the Longblock donor? The engine I'm looking at is complete and at first glance it looks like the intake will need to be changed. Aside from that I've heard the engine is the same except it has Steel liners. Is this true?

I'd buy the motor just to have it in the garage but I want to make sure I won't run into major issues like the heads have to be swapped or the thing won't bolt up to the trans or the mounts if I ever need it.

Yes, I read that post and he admits he's never done the swap. I'm just curious if anyone has actually done the deed and what they found was a problem.
