I'm normally over in the XK forum with my '07, but recently I have been given an opportunity to buy an 2002 XJR which sent me dashing to the web for data. (Note: I have only driven by the car, and spoken to the owner on the phone.)

My limited study time tells me the XJ8 is considered the base model (as if any Jag can be called such!) and the line moves to the JX L, then Sport, then XJR, and finally the XJR VDP here in the US market.

I assumed the trunk badging would have the Jaguar plaque on one side and the model on the other (I have seen this many times).

However on this car it has XJR on one side and XJ8 on the other... I'm just confused about the double model labels, and why I have never noticed it before....

I can attest that it is supercharged, so why the XJ8 label?

Just puzzled I guess.... Is it a base XJ8 with the supercharger option, or just something common on an XJR I have not noticed before?

Simple. It has the wrong badge where the XJ8 is. Should say Jaguar. Why is a question for the owner, not me.

That in itself warrants I stop and look over the car in closer detail...
I know the XJR was on the drivers side, and XJ8 badge on the passenger side.....

Which was replaced?

 

No clearly someone is playing games. The Jaguar badge should be on the left, the XJ8 or XJR on the right. Opening the hood and looking will confirm things.

 

Check the VIN

I put an XJ8 badge on my sports. Ebay have them all over the place. Have a new sports badge too...wouldn't read too much into a $10 badge.

I haven't made up my mind if I am interested enough in the car to actually buy it (immaculate, 109K miles, and $4500) but I do think I will at least go look at it.

Hardest part for me would be getting over the white leather interior (on silver).... That itself is pretty much a deal breaker....

I've always wanted this body style XJR, but visioned anything but those colors, and probably more wanting a VDP or L model (and willing to pay a tad more for it)

Possible rear end collision damage or re-spray and incorrect re-badging by the paint shop?
