my 2003 super v8 trunk won't release from interior button or from remote. remote works everything else. the trunk lights won't work either and am wondering if the security module is malfunctioning.

 

Does the trunk open with the key? If yes and you can see the lights not working then you have a couple of broken wires.
Facing the trunk the right hand hinge has a bundle of wires that are routed in the hinge arm. Remove the plastic covering and and un-tape the bundle. The break may not be ready apparent the wire with a multi meter as far apart as you can get then flex the wire and watch the continuity.
The wires breaking in the hinge is a fairly common problem.
