I have that U1261 code that seems to defy us. Well I may have found some answers to it as this has been a subject many times in the past without many answers to it. I also found a tool to help with the code as a n OB2 scanner will show it but that is it. Instead of me going into detail, I am posting what I have found along with a couple of videos on the tool and its use. As I search out more I will post what I found.
I attach files that I have on generic fault codes, many of which should also be applicable to Jaguars. The links at codes connect to a website which, in most cases, provides detailed info on the code selected. However, in the case of U1261, it only states "SCP (J1850) Single Ended (-) Circuit Failure" and no other details are provided.
I am attaching the Network DTC Summaries for the 2003 AJ27. According to the manual, here are the definition and possible causes of U1261:
I am also attaching the Electrical Guide, which contains the wiring schematics for the SCP network.
Regarding the OBDII/CAN DLC breakout box, there are far less expensive options than the OTC-branded one. Mine looks and functions like the OTC but cost significantly less.
