Default Unterminated Wire by Battery 1999 XJ8

Hi folks just bought an XJ8 as a project car and I believe the Fuel Pump has to be replaced. When I looked in the battery compartment I notice a white/blue striped wire unterminate. I do not see anything that it could possible be connected to. Also just behind the battery (between the fuse box and battery) is a long 3" ish bolt that is not holding anything down. Can anyone tell me what the wire goes to and what the screw is supposed to be used for?

I have included pictures;

Default White/Blue Wire = TRANSIT ISOLATION DEVICE

Hi Greenlee63,

The White/Blue (WU) wire that you found in the trunk is used for export XJ8's that require extended transit times from England to foreign counties (USA). It is used to protect the battery from becoming fully discharged. Once the XJ8 arrives at the dealership the Transit Isolation Device is removed as it it no longer required. Hence you have a wire that's not connected to anything. Here is a screen shot showing the circuit.

I thought that was for the Smoke Screen and Oil Slick options.

great news I was worried that I was missing a major component, now I just need to figure out how to remove those fuel lines from the front of the gas tank.

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully it's not critical because I plan to remove it.

Hey that bolt is supposed to hold a battery bracket that keeps the battery from sliding backwards

There seems to be another bolt in addition to the two that hold down the battery bracket.

Any guesses?

there are three bolts required to hold the battery down. To long ones that hold a bar over the top of the bracket, then there is another just behind the battery (which I believe your are wondering about) that has a bracket (mine is missing) to keep the battery from sliding backwards. I hope this helps
