Upper Cam Tensioners.
Just a quick question.
What was the model year when Jaguar stopped using the plastic tensioners on the XJ8/XJRs and switched to metal ones?
Thanks.

ENGINE NUMBER is the ONLY way to verify. The engine was ALWAYS made before the car!!!!!!!!(VINs are WORTHLESS)
(what if the engine was replaced?)
August 13, 2001; engine S/N 0108130000 onward were supposed to have the metal body tensioners.
0108130000 = 2001 year, 08 month, 13 day, 0000 hour.

What about the lower tensioners? Did they figure out how to fix that problem at the same time? Seems like the plastic that didn't enjoy hot oil was at fault in uppers and lowers.

That would be an x350 as others have said. By that time all AJ engines had metal tensioners, no need to worry.
