USA Jag in France
Hello to all. So I recently moved to Southern France from the US. And brought my 2001 XJR with me. ( a big mistake, and do not recommend ) but is is here now and I am in the process of licensing it in France.
so the question, the recess in the trunk ( boot ) for the license plate on the US car. Fits a US license plate. However is no where near wide enough to fit a EU license plate.
I find it hard to believe that Jaguar had a differnt trunk lid for the EU market vs the US market. Any ideas?? How to mount a EU plate on it?

Congrats on the move!
They sometime offer differ format and sizes, maybe you could get one that fits the available space better?

Why is importing a x308 a bad idea? I though pre-2006 car importation was easy(ier)

I only say I would not do that again. As while it is true, you can easally.and fairly cheaply ship it to LaHave from LA ( about $1,700 ) takes about 2 months. However getting it released from the French port took another 5 months and so far about $4k. And it still need to be licensed, and inspected, etc, which I am told will take several more months and quite a bit of money.
so way better to buy whatever you want that us allready in France.
And you are correct, Jaguar has a differnt bootlid for the Euro market. ( who knew ) crazy.
So there you go.
Hard to be too upset, you know living in the south of France, having trouble getting my Jaguar licensed. ( talk about first world problems)
I will show myself out;-)

thanks for the story and update
if you dont mind me asking, was the process done on your own or did you use an importer service ?
I've heard from others it's easier to bring a car into France that was never even sold there, than one that was made or imported there by the brand. I will let you speculate on why that may be but you need to find your own tin foil hat LOL

I used a professional service ( Easy Freight ) they were great.
I will let you know how the licensing process goes.
Since it is a English car, and is sold in Europe I hope it will not be a huge problem. But we will see. I was told by a.friend that he was helping some people ( American )get their US Mini Cooper lucensed here. And after much money and time. Shipped it back to the states. So you would think a Mini Cooper would fly here.. So we will see.
